Sat Aug 26: A Portage Ride That’s Wet ‘n…Mild
This route description reads like a pitch for a tourism adventure: 30 miles, six bodies of water, two states and more than a dozen villages, towns and hamlets. Plus a unique feature you rarely see on a bike route: a *short* portage over railroad tracks!
The stop and nosh destination is Ronnie’s Bagels in Hillsdale. The wet part includes drive by’s of the Hudson River, Sparkill Creek, Lake Tappan, Woodcliff Lake and Silver Lake. And as promised, the short, safe but surprising Park Ridge Portage in the middle of Berthoud Ave followed by a “something different” return route through Central Nyack.
New policy: We need to leave on time! Please show up at 8:25 for this 8:30 ride so we can hit the road without delay (if you snooze you won’t cruise!)
Starting point is Nyack Memorial Park at the corner of Piermont & Depew Aves. Make sure you bring your helmet, have food, 1-2 bottles of water and anything necessary for bike repair (air pump/CO2, tubes, patch kit, etc.) This is a no-drop ride.
Wondering Weather Or Not We Will Ride? If rain threatens and you are wondering “weather” or not we are going to ride…if it’s raining 30 minutes before start time, go back to bed. Same decision if storms are predicted during the time we will be riding. Check WeatherUnderground.com for radar and an hour by hour forecast.
